Testimonial "Wade, I used the evaluation techniques you taught us last year to look at many of the animals in the auction lots. A few that I thought looked interesting in the catalog got thrown out based on body conformation issues that I would not have looked at closely enough without what I learned from you - Thanks again". Want to host a Clinic! Several topics can be choosen or we can discuss any other ideas for a clinic you may have.

  1. Showing it off, Right! How do you catch the Judges attention in the ring with your alpaca? Wonder why some alpacas always stand out among the rest? It could be because the handlers abilities to read the judge are better than yours. Practice seeing the show ring from a Judges view to learn how to handle your alpaca to its best presentation for viewing. Learn what the judge is looking for. These tips can make a big difference for you in the show ring. This class will involve hands on show ring procedures while handling alpacas for mock halter classes. Time for Q & A sessions will be planned.

Hands on Discussions and Demos with you & the alpacas
Conformation, observing good and bad points
Handling skills for the show ring
How to show your alpaca to its best advantage despite minor faults
Types and trends of fiber, and what is best?
    Suri and Huacaya discussions

  3. EPD cliff notes from Brett Kaysen and David Barboza
  4. Fiber Sorting for the Farm or Mill Not sure what to do with your large fleece production? Sorting fibers out into similar color groups and also into similar micron ranges will improve the quality of any end product.
  5. Evaluating Alpacas from Head to Toe. Learn what is looked at on each section of the alpaca. Learn procedures and information to help you notice and evaluate your own alpacas for ownership, breeding potential, show selection or selling points. This is a hands on training class for all levels.
  6. Hands on Evaluating Fleece:
Get right in there with a Judge/Judge Trainer on what alpaca fleece is all about. Understand what are the benefits and weaknesses of each fleece used during the class. Learn about fineness ranges, uniformities and densities. Then identify them on several hands on fleece break-out sessions. Find out tips on skirting, showing a fleece and sorting skills. Most important, Wade will help you visualize what quality of alpaca you are viewing with just the fleece sample.
As an extra benefit, each participant can bring a fleece to the class for possible group evaluation under the instructors guidance.
  7. Advanced Fiber Analysis Clinic This is a hands-on clinic presented by: Wade Gease, AOBA Certified Alpaca Judge/Trainer and certified fiber sorter.

Come and refine your knowledge of what makes alpaca fiber so incredible. Learn to identify what is an elite, average & mediocre characteristic displayed on the AOBA fleece scorecard. Learn about crimp styles/locks, brightness/luster, density and gain an understanding where your alpacas measure up. And learn how to estimate microns with your own eyes & fingers! Grow your knowledge and confidence with this hands on experience as you go thru examples.

" I really enjoy this intense educational opportunity with private owners .
The consultation focuses on a direction for your herd and gives back the
confidence to your business. During your evaluation I am your discreet
consultant and will try to answer all your questions as best I can."

Owners and alpacas will have to abide by AOBA’s nine month rule. Reference 5-11,12 in 2008 AOBA Show Division Handbook. An alpaca/exhibitor is disqualified from showing in front of a Judge if the Judge has acted as a consultant within nine months prior to the date of the show.

What this means is that you would need to use a different handler or show other non previously viewed alpacas in front of that Judge during that time frame.

Participants at educational clinics are absolved of this rule since it is for educational purposes, including the host.
